Organisation for Implementation
The organisational structure has been designed to have one project leader, one project manager, one jeep with a driver, in SFAC, exclusively for implementation of the project. All these personnel will be engaged purely on temporary basis. Since lot of extension work is involved in high degree of farming operations, personnel from the department of agriculture if available, can be deputed. An officer in cadre of an Assistant Director of Agriculture and an officer in the cadre of Agricultural Officer form the Department of Agriculture, can discharge the duties of Project Leader and Project Officer. For their frequent visits in the project area, as well as for maintaining good liaison with other Govt. agencies and NGO's frequent tours are inevitable. Also creating openings for marketing throughout the state will be the duty of these officers (Appendix 5).
Research and Development
special provision has been laid down in the project to arrange Research and Development in the fields of : -
(1)Mechanical support to increase efficiency in mat weaving, convenient to put in use in homestead conditions. It is proposed to seek help of Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai.
(2)To evolve mechanised devices for embroidery; cutting and stitching processes etc, for preparing fancy item, curios and the like - IIT, Chennai
(3)To conduct research on medicinal properties of the plant parts - to have carried out with the help of Indian Council of Medical Research.
(4)Research on marketing potential - national and international level - scope for substitution of organic material to plastics - to be entrusted with centre for Management Department, Thiruvananthpuram.
(5)Research on formulation of package of practices for Pandanus to be entrusted with Kerala Agricultural University (Appendix 5)
