VAIGA-2020: “Sustainable Agricultural Development through Agripreneurship”
VAIGA-2020 , the 4th Edition of India’s premiere International Workshop and Exhibition of Value Addition, Processing and Income Generation Technologies, Innovations and Opportunities in Agri-business , was organised from 4 th to 7 th January, 2020 at Thekkinkad Maidanam,Thrissur,Kerala. VAIGA is the acronym for Value Addition for Income Generation in Agriculture. The theme of VAIGA-2020 is “Sustainable Agricultural Development through Agripreneurship”. VAIGA is organised by Government of Kerala with the support of Government of India, Central and State Government research institutions, public sector undertakings and other organizations in the field of agricultural development.VAIGA has made positive impact in the agribusiness ecosystem of Kerala by moulding and developing thousands of agripreneurs using the most modern innovative technologies for value addition.
VAIGA is showcasing the most modern trends and techniques in value addition , processing and income enhancing opportunities for agri-preneurs. As part of VAIGA-2020 , international workshop was organised in two parallel tracks at Main and Sub Venues based on the theme “Sustainable Agricultural Development through Agripreneurship”. Potential of Banana – Production and Export, Millets for Nutrition and Income Generation, Commercial possibilities in Floriculture and Landscaping, Transforming Agriculture through young Entrepreneurs, Kerala towards healthy life: Mission on self sufficiency in Vegetable production etc are the major topics of International workshop in the Main Venue. Seminar topics for the Sub Venue were Creating opportunities through Sustainable Agriculture by adding value and establishing market linkage, Strategic intervention, processing, export and market linkage, Value addition in key crops-Jackfruit, Coconut, Coffee, Pepper, Cardamom and Honey, Logistics, packaging, licencing, technical facilitation, GI products, Promoting and developing sustainable FPO’s in Kerala etc. Participating Delegates are advised to register online through VAIGA website www.vaigakerala.com
Along with the international workshop an international exhibition of success stories in the field of value addition technologies, machineries for value addition, stalls of various research institutions of Central and State Governments, various public sector undertakings, model co-operatives etc were organized and farmers interacted with the experts.
First edition of VAIGA was organised during 2016 at Kanakakunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram with main focus on value addition prospects of Rice, Coconut and Banana. Second edition of VAIGA was organised at Kerala Agricultural University Campus, Thrissur with focus on value addition prospects of Coconut, Banana and Honey. Third edition of VAIGA was organised from 2018 December 27 th to 30 th at Thekkinkadu Maidanam, Thrissurwith main focus on value addition prospects of fruits, flowers, spices and vegetables.
This event was a great delight for the locals and the like as it showcase the agricultural prowess of the state ie from farm to the fork and provides platform to relish the local cuisine and flavour.
